The Perfect Pretend House

Wes Anderson always has the best interiors in cinema. They're beautiful, story book like, even if everything feels a bit "off". One of my favorites has always been the Tenenbaum house. My favorite room in all of 111 Archer Avenue has to be the pink 4th floor ballroom.

It's perfect. I can't help but love it. I've always been a huge fan of pink. I remember when my mother let me pick the paint color of my room for the first time. I picked the brightest most pepto bismol pink I could find.

"Are you sure?" She said barely trying to hide her disappointment.

It wasn't even a question, it was perfect.

When it came time to repaint our two front rooms, dining and living respectably, I don't think it was a coincidence that we happened to be re watching The Royal Tenenbaums. I leaned over to Brian and asked,

"What if I painted the rooms pink?"

He was quiet for a second, but said, "If you can make it the Tennebaum pink, we've got a a deal."

My mission was set, after numerous samples of my favorite paint, I think I've finally settled on the perfect color.

Meet Valspar's Hibiscus Pink. It reads a bit less blue in the house than it does on the screen. It looks so perfect next to the freshly painted white trim. I'm excited to see both rooms once they're done! I've got a few other projects to tackle first, but this is one of the more exciting ones. Even if I actually hate painting.

Inspiration : Rustic Contrast

Sources: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Every once in awhile I like to go through my Pinterest boards and see if I'm pinning a lot of the same style. It's helpful for me to actually group them all together to see what direction my style is heading towards. I don't know if there's a proper name for all these images, but I came up with "rustic contrast".

Lots of black, gray, and whites. Using natural materials such as wood and copper, and keeping things fairly simple and utilitarian.

Since I'm sure I'll be stuck in the house a great deal this winter, maybe I can actually start slowly morphing my living space into something similar.

Thoughts On The New Victory Patterns' Patterns

As if I didn't have a large enough sewing to do list.

Victory patterns went ahead and realeased some of the most beautiful, on trend, and modern sewing patterns I've ever seen.

The back of the Roxanne blouse is really beautiful. It's so graceful.

It's kept really classy casual with the front pocket and tie neckline here.

This is another version of the Roxanne blouse. That collar, It's perfection. I know large peter pan collars have been quite popular this past year. This is a really refreshing modern take on that. Also a super A+ pick on the textile.

Detail shot on the Simone dress/blouse. The details are great! I love the little seed stitch accenting.

Simone is the only version on the hi-low trend I can dig.

Here's the beautiful tulip wrap dress that is Nicola.  Really lady like and flattering. I'm thinking in black this could be the perfect LBD. Timeless.

Here's the wrap top version of Nicola. There's something very ballerina about it. Beautiful photograph also.

Once again Victory Patterns has killing it style wise. I feel pretty honored to be sponsored by such a wonderful company!
I cannot wait to sew these up.

Sew along anyone?

Whatever Wednesdays: Atonement

You know that everyone has that movie, which you seem to watch by default a lot? Well mine's been atonement for awhile. Not only is the story great, but the visuals and costumes are pretty much to die for. I mean really, check out these stills from the film.

Pretty perfect right? Please don't get me started on the most amazing gown ever either. I mean, look at it!

Needless to say I'm pretty stoked for Anna Karenina to come out. It's by the same director as Atonement, Mr. Joe Wright.

Do you have a favorite movie you find inspiring? What movies are you excited for?

Basement Inspiration

The lady cave has been on hold since you last saw it here . It's been collecting lost socks and anything I can't throw away but are't using at this second.
It looks like my room circa 16 year old me. Which is a really really really NOT a good thing (right mom?). So To get myself back on track I've decided to get inspired. I'm looking to have a "unfinished, usable, basement". Seeing as they're no way in heck that I'd be able to actually get the money together anytime soon to properly finish the basement, It's a good middle ground. Not to mention there are things with water and draining that need to be done before I invest that kind of money. But it'd be super silly not to use it in the long run right? I think the fact that my basement has high ceilings, and practically doubles the square footage of my house sure doesn't hurt my argument either!
Here's some amazing unfinished basements to feast your eyes upon!

Pretty Gorgeous right? Also a far cry from this:

But I'm hoping that some serious cleaning, organization, and a bit of paint will go a long way. I'm lucky because I have a million light fixtures, outlets, and central air vents. Everything already being there is going to save me a lot in making this space usable.
