Minor Change In The Kitchen

Just got back from my San Francisco trip! I'm a little sun burnt, a little swollen, and a lot jet lagged.
But hey, gotta keep on keeping on, am I right?
I got a kitchen cart that makes much more spacial sense than the gate leg table I had next to the fridge before.

See how far it sticks out in comparison to our fridge? That led to a lot of door banging and bruised hips. It did the job though, and was something I already owned. So being a bit impractical for that space was made up for by the fact it was "free". But since I had a bit of extra cash with my tax return that came in, I brought something that made much more sense.

I love it, a lot. It's the FÖRHÖJA kitchen cart from none other than IKEA. It was kind of a pain in the butt to put together, but I really like the look of it.

Since it's against the wall instead of serving as an island, I might put some drawer stops on the back. Besides that though it's perfect. I can finally get my cook books out of the cabinets too! I often forget I have them when they're sight unseen.

PS: I still love the new tiny fridge! I haven't had any issues with food fitting or the fridge being too small. It's just laid out really perfectly. I cannot recommend it enough!

We Brought A New Fridge!

So remember doom fridge?

We did our best with what we had, and used chalkboard paint to spruce up the old girl. The inside, which I never took a picture of was worse. The lights didn't work, and there were some serious mystery stains.

We decided to get a new fridge, and settled upon one of the Summit Appliances FFBF series.

I literally could not be happier.

It holds the perfect amount of food for us, and has really awesome energy ratings! It's made in the USA too, which as someone who tries to buy as locally as possible is awesome!

I also stopped by Ikea to get some of the BYGEL rails to play with all this new wall space! I'm thinking about putting a long shelf along the top of the wall to hold all my cookbooks as well! I'm trying to get the kitchen sorted out before I have to make Christmas dinner for everyone.

I also repainted the floor in the future bedroom. The poly I used ruined everything and turned it a bright pee yellow.

Luckily it's nothing a little sanding, and floor paint can't fix. If you're painting your floors, please use floor paint, it makes all the difference! This weekend I hope to paint the vents and walls!

Kitchen Update!

to now!

You might be thinking to yourself, wait, your painted it white, then yellow again?! Yes, I thought I was going to be all stark and modern when I first moved into this house. Come to find out the midwest winters are stark enough for my tastes. My mother and sister flew in an helped me paint. We painted the kitchen a bright cherry "butter up". Which if you ask me is completely different then the weird peach that was up on the walls. The accent walls that leads into the kitchen and starts in the front rooms is a great "Biscayne" blue. We pulled the colors from the handmade curtains, made from some simple quilting cotton available at joanns. I'm not quite done yet with the kitchen though! I'd still like to paint the kitchen cabinets white and add new hardware. Even though everyone loves my DIY Chalkboard fridge, I'm still wishing for a smeg fridge in mint. I also am saving up a few dinero for this kitchen cart to keep the mixer and microwave on to free up some counter space.

Kitchen Floor

In case you can't remember what My kitchen looked like when we moved in, here's all the photos I can find!

And about 300 dollars later!

We still have to wax and buff the tiles, but I'm basically way in love already. Who'd have thought you could get so excited about floor tiles? Also I'd like to thank Dad and laurie for coming and putting them in! Next for the kitchen I've got more painting planned!

So I've decided on black! If I don't like them I can always repaint! New downlight, floors and a DIY chevron curtain. I'm really considering going with the VCT classic black, not only is it true Midmod, but it's hella cheap!
